T-6 Flight / 2012 Sun N' Fun Preview
The 38th annual Sun N' Fun International Fly-In & Expo kicks off this Tuesday, and to preview the upcoming week-long festivities I was invited to fly with Bill Doty in an AT-6 SNJ warbird. Better known as a T-6 Texan, the aircraft was used as an advanced trainer by both the U.S. Army Air Forces and the U.S. Navy through the 1950's, playing a crucial role in training pilots for the dangerous missions they would be ordered to carry out through WWII. Several variants of the T-6 have been used in combat by other countries around the world. Sun N' Fun is the first major international aviation event of the year in America, and for the next week Sun N' Fun's Lakeland Linder Regional Airport will be the busiest airport in the world, tracking over 40,000 aircraft movements and welcoming an estimated 175,000 visitors from more than 80 countries.
