Fakahatchee State Preserve
Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve, known as "the Amazon of North America", is located just outside of Everglades National Park in Southwest Florida. This lush swamp forest is home to many endangered plants and animals, including the elusive Florida Panther, and covers an area approximately twenty miles long by five miles wide. An 11-mile unpaved dirt road off SR-29 offers easy access through the park, and several trails can be found along the way for those willing to brave this wilderness by foot.
