United Launch Alliance kicked off their 2015 on Jan. 20, delivering the third in a 5-ship fleet of next-generation tactical military communications satellites to orbit for the NAVY. The 7.5 ton Mobile User Objective System-3, or MUOS-3, was ULA's heaviest Atlas-V payload to date, & one which required all the might their Atlas-V rocket could provide, which came in the form of 5 boosters. The launch was only the fifth flight out of 52 Atlas-V launches to date that have flown this '551 configuration', the others being New Horizons to Pluto, Curiosity (MSL) to Mars, & the first 2 MUOS launches.
